The Legalities and Procedures

We have found that many couples would love a Spanish wedding day, but are discouraged by the daunting prospect of red tape and paperwork involved, and there really is no need to be!

Whatever your ideas and plans for the perfect wedding day, we can guide you through the procedures and take away any worries about local laws, language barriers, logistics and any other queries you may have. We pride ourselves on our friendly and relaxed service whilst efficiency and organisation work away in the background. Remember our number 1 priority is that you both feel happy, relaxed and among friends on your big day!

A religious church wedding is not for everyone and some people may have personal circumstances such as nationality, religious denomination, divorce etc which may affect how we go about organising your wedding, but we can usually find a way around most obstacles, so it is definitely worth sending us an e-mail to find out!

For the more straightforward situations, the basic legalities are as follows:

CATHOLIC WEDDINGS

Catholics of any country can be married legally in Spain and the procedure is surprisingly easy and stress-free, contrary to what many people may think. All you have to do is decide on the date and the church and then we will give you all the details you need to start the wheels in motion for the necessary paperwork, which we will guide through your own priest and parish, through your bishops office and then overseas and through the bishop of Malaga to the church you have chosen.

There is no need to have a civil wedding in your own country as the church marriage will be registered legally in the parish where you marry and marriage certificate issued, which is legally recognised everywhere.

CIVIL WEDDINGS

Civil Ceremonies in Spain are only possible if one or both of the couple are resident here.

For British citizens we can arrange a civil ceremony in Gibraltar if you wish and then the reception held in Spain at a venue of your choice.

BLESSINGS

The legal joining of a couple is really just that and can be done in your own country very easily, but most of the couples we speak to say that the important part for them is making their vows to each other in the company of their loved ones. This is the romantic part of the process and once you have a legal (civil) certificate, we can organise a minister here and set up a blessing ceremony, religious or otherwise, at a venue of your own choosing. We can do this at an indoor, outdoor, beach, country, lakeside, garden or any other kind of location according to your dreams and ideas for the perfect day.

All you need to bring with you for this procedure is your civil certificate.
